[…] Logan A. Warren of Geek on Call reports the most expensive Starbucks coffee in the world. It took half an hour to make and cost $23.60 (€18). 16 shots of espresso, a shot of soy milk, caramel flavoring, banana puree, strawberry puree, vanilla beans, Matcha powder, protein powder, and a drizzle of caramel and mocha. The resulting beverage contains 1400mg of caffeine. According to Erowid, a widely respected drug catalog, a heavy caffeine dose is 400+mg. This drink has 3 times that. If I drank this all at once, it would put me in the hospital. Two of these would kill me. […]

I hope you left that barista a nice big tip!
You are really far off on how much it would take to kill you. 6 of those in a short period of *might*.
I work at a Starbucks. Trentas are for Ice Coffee, Ice Teas and Ice Tea Lemonades ONLY. No Frapps – ever. Instead of seeing just how much junk you can put in your drink, why don’t you do something constructive with a freebie on Starbucks – that doesn’t taste like crap? Idiots!
What’s the deal with the no fraps in the trenta size?
I’d also like to know.
COFFEE IS SERIOUS BUSINESS!
dont be a bitch
Saw this over at Geekologie. Very impressive drink you got there! The question has to be asked though, was it any good? It sure sounds good!
O sorry! I was thinking the article here would’ve been more or less like the one on geekologie. Upon further review, the flavor is apparently “tolerable”.
I just looked it up, and the strongest energy drink I can think of (Nos) has around 260mg of caffeine… so that drink is indeed very strong!
It wouldn’t kill you. The LD50 (median fatal dose) of caffeine is 80-100 cups for the average human, while your drink here is just eight.
You may have a minor panic attack if you were caffeine sensitive, but the caffeine content would not affect your health.
I could buy a bottle of bleach for like $2, and I’d only need one to kill me, big whoop.
Was it worth it.
who cares….
Do you REALLY know what Jillian Michaels tastes like?
Cool…
Juno.com? Really?
Haha! Seriouslyyyy!
No one cares – get a life!
March 3rd 2011?! That was almost a year ago!
And you only drank it yesterday? Sick.
What is the point of a stupidity like this. So you just wasted half the pay some people earn in a month on a drink that will just be thrown away and that nobody can drink. To me you just paid 20 something dollars to show the world you are a selfish as***ole.
If you wanted visibility as a douche, well you got it now…
Really? I don’t know anyone willing to work for 60 dollars a month. He didn’t pay for it, it was free because of a coupon. Blame the news, not him. This isn’t news worthy and just demonstrates how the news, well just isn’t ‘news’ anymore. (Willing to bet you got here from Yahoo news)
and you just spent 20 minutes proving your are a jealous jewish a**hole.
you are an idiot…
That sounds awful. And, yet, I want to try one.
this is disgusting. shame on anyone for spending 23.60 on a freaking drink. fuck starbucks for selling over priced and over roasted coffee. Gross.
We always make sure nothing like that happens at Lifetime Auto Accessories
You know how they call a pop a “suicide” when you mix Coke, Sprite, Root Beer, etc into one drink? Your combination of shots and flavors listed above puts the traditional pop suicide to shame. In fact, I would say it replaces the traditional pop suicide. I can only imagine how disgustingly-sweet that tasted.
What an idiot!
That is WOW….I did not event expect that. Even though I had not gone to one in a long shot, it is expensive now a days.
You could have been charged for extra frappuccino roast, caramel brulee sauce, pumpkin spice sauce, and egg nog, so no, this isn’t the most expensive drink possible. Sorry.
Dude, you’re a douche. Please drink it & save us all from your existence.
I hope the Store Manager sees this article. That “laughing barista” should know that Starbucks policy for Trenta cups are for Iced Coffees & Iced Teas ONLY. The largest size Frappuccino is a Venti. If all your add-ons won’t fit in the Venti cup, that’s really too bad; you don’t get to use as many cups as you want to empty the pitcher, or shove it into the largest cup we carry.
So you got a free drink coupon & wasted it because in your greed, you chose to cram all sorts of ingredients into a cup just to see the total on the receipt, instead of getting a drink you could *enjoy*. And *that* was the point when Starbucks gave you that coupon.
You missed the point of the gift.
Guess you showed Starbucks. Hope you enjoy your ’15 minutes’ more than you did that drink.
Smh.
Pretty disturbing to hear that much caffeine and sugar existing in one drink alone! Thanks for testing out the ‘Free Drink’ coupon and showing how quickly coffee drinks can rack up in price, calories, and caffeine!
I guarantee you the baristas let the shots expire before putting blending it together.
Oh my goodness, you are gorgeous, I love your lips.
Eye candy aside, It would make for a lot more interesting article if you got reaction from a Starbucks spokesperson to see what (if anything) would be done to prevent someone from walking into Starbucks and creating a copycat drink that could potentially kill hem
Great drink!
http://9gag.com/gag/2688028
Haaa…that’s nothing! Here in Brazil that drink would probably cost around 10x more….haha
post back when that happens…
Good one
So what I gather is that no matter how much money you pour into it, it still taste like crap. 🙂
Oh well, at least it wasn’t your actual cash!
Awesome! 🙂
Reblogged this on Duck Duck Gray Duck.
First things first.. You cannot get a trenta java chip unless baristas are nice enough to do so for you.. As you can see on the receipt, it says vt. (venti). Second.. If you want quality coffee that’s what people pay for.. It’s an expensive process. Third.. Horrible way to bring up the point of coffee prices going up… No one orders the drink he… Key word… “invented”! So no one is paying that much. Also.. This is not news.. I live in new York city as people do this “experiment” all the time… Sorry find your facts our first.
i don’t know if you are misinformed or just want to generate traffic by being dramatic. please inform yourself and don’t spew crap to stupid people who might repeat what they read online like they usually do.
FROM WIKIPEDIA: The LD50 of caffeine in humans is dependent on individual sensitivity, but is estimated to be about 150 to 200 milligrams per kilogram of body mass or roughly 80 to 100 cups of coffee for an average adult.
so if you weigh 70 kg or about 154 lbs, you would need to take in a whopping 12,25 grams of caffeine (assuming the median 175mg/kg). even if there are 1,4 grams of pure caffeine in your decadent joke coffee-smoothie, which i doubt, nope – you would not die. not even from drinking two of them. you’re either stupid or deliberately dishing out false info. shame on you.
He should try the kopi luwak coffee (www.cafekopiluwak.ca) much more expensive (about 100$ a cup) and so much better !!
Also on facebook.com/cafekopiluwak
Amazing!
what a bloody waste of time and money – even though it was “free”
Reblogged this on A Paladin Without A Crusade… and commented:
This is the most hilarious thing I’ve read this week. Enjoy!
Should’ve drank it…then sued them!
What’s matcha powder? It sounds flammable.
That’s a venti…
Should have used your free every 15 postcard. 🙂
disgusting!
That was stupid, wow I’m stupid for wasting my time reading it.
Was it really your birthday like the receipt claims or did you steal that $23.60 drink from the owner of the Starbucks??
I am rather sure that consumption of the quantity of caffiene and sugar contained in that drink cannot be very healthy for any person. Excellent use of a coupon though, I must say. Probably leave out the banana and strawberry may have improved the taste and I doubt if the addition of protein powder enhanced the heathiness of the drink. I wonder what the barista got for a tip?
they charged double mocha when the drink already comes with mocha… that should taken off
I love that you made it your birthday drink.
Marry me?
First question: Are you a girl? :p
Second question: Do you indeed live in Charleston? My ip locator can be notoriously inaccurate!
That is awesome!
Congratulations, you win Super Douche Bag of the Year!
It’s the likes of you who go in search of the loopholes and ruin things got the rest of us!
Well done!
Starbucks is now likely to limit everyone’s free birthday-any drink!
First of all no other drinks besides iced coffee and iced tea are allowed to go in a trenta. Second Starbucks doesn’t have banana puree only whole bananas. And what the hell is a shot of soy milk and vanilla beans. It just vanilla bean powder and the drink made with soy. If your going to make an idiotic drink at least state what you put in it correctly.
Nice job indeed! Way to ruin it for the rest of us! Because of this there will probably be changes to the program which might include a up to value amount. Also, good job to the Barista that is hopefully fired for helping you come up with this crap concoction….because the Trenta ISN’T FOR FRAPPUCCINO’S, only Iced Tea’s or Iced Coffee’s. So nice job to her as well! Oh and thanks for taking a picture of the entire receipt so that the corporate office can see what store it came from as well! I hope you enjoyed ever sip of this nasty ass drink!
thats the biggest buncha bullshit i’ve ever seen theres way more important shit going on in this world then a f’n self proFLAMED, “entrepreneur” and this guy is on national TV, are you kidding me? lmao
wow..expensive coffee? i use regular coffee at starbucks coffee in Moncton New Brunswick, however anybody never tells me like your expensive coffee!!
hot damn lol
Love the last phrase of the post…although if anyone could kick Chuck Norris’ butt, it would be Jillian Michaels.
How are you not being sued by Geeks on Call for Trademark infringement yet?
so we know who to thank when the free coupons have a price cap or are eliminated altogether! Or that Starbucks raises its prices even further to compensate for this!!!
All right, the drink sounds positively disgusting, but you’re also really cute (especially in the shirt and tie). So I feel like we’ve got some balance here.
The most entertaining part of this isn’t the actual story, though I applaud anybody who can utilize what has been given to them to get the most out of it, especially from a corporation like Starbucks.
The most entertaining part is all the comments from the elitist (that’s nothing… coffee is MUCH more expensive here) to the angered (there are kids dying of hunger in Africa!! shame on you for this outrageous behavior!!!) to the overcompensating “intellects” (your facts are all wrong! 2 cups of this couldn’t kill a man, and here’s my scientific equation to prove it!)
Good gravy… you call this guy an idiot. Look at how tightly you are all wound up.
TAKE THE STICKS OUT OF YOUR BUTTHOLES, AND LIGHTEN UP!
+1
I’d never do this, but it was interesting to read about, and I commend the Starbucks barista to make this drink to satisfy the customer. There’s no fine print and the card, either, which is smart of Starbucks.
Great post!
I second that….lighten up everyone, it was for fun!
Where did $23.60 come from? Looks more like $21.80
Reblogged this on where it's @ !~ and commented:
